Job Summary

The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled Eligibility Specialist III to join our Emergency and Intervention Services team. As a key member of our Domestic Violence Liaison Unit, you will play a critical role in determining eligibility for public assistance and providing essential support to vulnerable populations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine eligibility for public assistance and provide accurate benefits to clients referred to the Domestic Violence Liaison Unit
  • Conduct thorough interviews to assess continued financial eligibility and issue benefits according to agency guidelines
  • Provide information about transitional benefits to encourage financial independence through employment
  • Identify and address special and emergency needs in a timely manner
  • Authorize statistical and financial changes in assistance and prepare required forms to effect processing
  • Maintain a caseload by managing time effectively and completing tasks such as face-to-face recertification interviews, participant appointment schedules, and paperwork
  • Accurately complete Fair Hearing/Aid to Continue compliance and resolutions within prescribed deadlines
  • Prepare unit reports on activities and other reports as required
Requirements
  • Completion of 60 semester credits at an accredited college or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in one or more of the following areas: interviewing, gathering information, and preparing documentation for public assistance or unemployment benefits; bookkeeping, bank teller duties, housing office teller duties, purchasing agent, assistant store manager, sales representative, or customer service representative
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above requirements
