Your Role:

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Liaison Nurse at Methodist Health System will serve as the primary contact for affiliated EMS and pre-hospital organizations within the healthcare system's service area.

This role involves utilizing analytical skills to coordinate pre-hospital communications with EMS Providers, thereby enhancing the continuum of care by facilitating patient transitions from pre-hospital environments to acute care settings and back to the community.

Collaborates with team members and management to elevate customer satisfaction and optimize outcomes within the emergency department and across the hospital.

Demonstrates adaptability to changes in work processes, makes informed decisions, and takes necessary actions to resolve issues. Initiates, develops, or implements innovative strategies to meet customer needs.

Qualifications:
Graduate from an accredited nursing program. (BSN preferred)

Licenses and Certifications (Required and Preferred):
Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Basic Life Support, TNCC (preferred)

CEN (preferred) Relevant Experience and Skills:
Experience in EMS operations, EMS clinical education, and the ability to assess the knowledge and technical skills of EMS providers.
Ability to complete tasks efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
Educational Resource
Assist the Emergency Department Educator with staff training

  • Basic Life Support - CPR Instructor
  • AHA – Caruth Initiative Grant Education (EMS Champion)
  • Support Stroke/Cardiac/Trauma Coordinators as required.
  • Conduct training on Code STEMI, Code Stroke, MCI, & Trauma drills and provide educational support to local EMS providers
  • Organize quarterly paramedic CEs for ED paramedics as necessary
  • Assist Materials Specialist with medical equipment training.
  • Act as the hospital representative for EMS school activities, EMS student clinical scheduling, and contracts
  • Maintain records of educational activities and EMS/Emergency Department complaints
  • Address and investigate complaints from EMS Providers, MHS Staff regarding EMS issues, patient complaints related to EMS, and family/visitor concerns regarding EMS-related matters. Conduct follow-up interviews as needed.
  • Report all EMS-related complaints to ED Administration as necessary.
EMS/ED Research

  • Collaborate with ED and Hospital Administration on EMS and ED-related research to enhance EMS/ED relationships and hospital throughput processes.
  • Analyze EMS and ED volume statistics for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Create and maintain EMS dashboards
  • Present relevant research findings to ED Administration.
Meetings and Committees

  • Participate in ED Leadership & Division ED Staff Meetings
  • Attend Trauma Operations Meetings
  • Engage in Chest Pain Committee meetings
  • Join Code Blue committee
  • Attend Hospital Community Liaison Meetings
  • Participate in Methodist Health System – Semi-annual EMS Meetings
  • Engage in North Central Texas – Trauma Regional Advisory Committee (NCT-TRAC) Zone 8 and Zone 4 Meetings.

Will serve as a delegate for:
Cardiac, EMS, Air Medic, Pediatrics

  • American Heart Association – Dallas Caruth STEMI Initiative /MLNTX quarterly meetings
  • Attend Biotel Meetings
  • Participate in any EMS/Fire Department-related events or meetings as necessary.
  • Organize, plan, and host meetings and nursing/EMS conferences EMS & ED/Hospital Relationships and EMS Patient Experience
  • Foster and maintain a positive working relationship with EMS Providers through effective communication, collaboration, and education.
  • Conduct quarterly meetings with EMS/Fire Department leadership teams and other EMS Liaisons as needed
  • Visit EMS/Fire Department stations as necessary.
  • Follow up on EMS patient outcomes for all STEMI, trauma activations, and CPRs, code stroke activations.
  • Obtain copies of EMS reports
  • Oversee the EMS lounge and EMS printing equipment, ensuring daily checks, stocking, and maintenance of the room and equipment/appliances
  • Manage storage of EMS equipment and facilitate the return of all EMS equipment left at Methodist Health System ED
  • Assist EMS Services with ongoing quality assurance processes as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between the ED STAFF and EMS for inquiries and concerns regarding clinical and professional interactions
  • Ensure that EMS Services provide appropriate documentation for each patient brought to the ED Other Tasks and Duties
  • Complete any assigned tasks or duties
  • LifeNet Administrator - Operations and Training
  • Administrator for EMS electronic medical records
  • Collaborate with ED Leadership and Emergency Management Department to develop mock MCI drills and other simulations
  • Maintain MCI Disaster Drill closet and equipment.
  • Assist in the Emergency Department with patient care within the scope of practice during high acuity or volume situations and/or at the request of the ED Manager
  • Respond to CODE Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT) when available while on duty
  • Support the ED Manager in overseeing the Code MERT policy and response.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards for Code MERTs
  • Collect and oversee documentation for all Code MERTs
  • Manage the ED patient Follow-up program, adhering to current Follow-up SOP and collaborating with Attending ED physicians
  • Exemplify the key elements of service excellence and MHS core values.
  • Effectively manage challenging conversations and daily interactions with patients, families, visitors, and staff in a consistently positive manner.
  • Maintain a calm, empathetic, and controlled demeanor at all times, projecting a positive image of Methodist Health System.
