The Coder III is responsible for reviewing medical records in their entirety, applying coding guidelines and regulations, and assigning ICD-CM and/or PCS and CPT diagnoses and procedures codes accurately and timely. Meet/exceed turnaround times and quality expectations consistently.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Review patient records and assign diagnosis and procedure codes according to policy, procedures, and official coding guidelines for various patient types.
  • Abstract required information from records and enter it into an abstracting system.
  • Query physicians for additional documentation to ensure accurate reimbursement and patient account acuity.
  • Maintain current coding knowledge through self-motivated education and hospital resources.

Requirements and Qualifications

We require a High School diploma or equivalent and minimum one year's experience in an acute healthcare setting. Coding credentials such as CCS, CIC, COC, CCS-P, CPC, RHIT, and RHIA are necessary. Working knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle functions, including documentation, coding, and billing guidelines, is preferred. Ability to accurately apply ICD-10 diagnosis, procedures, and CPT/HCPCs procedure codes is also preferred.

A thorough knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as pharmacology, is required. Excellent communication skills, including written and oral, teaching, and presentation skills, are essential. Knowledge of EMR (Cerner, EPIC) and various encoders (Optum, Clintegrity, Compliance 360, and 3M), including knowledge of the CAC system, is beneficial.


Estimated Salary Range

$65,000 - $90,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
