Job Title: Graduate Assistant - Student Support

Join the University of Central Oklahoma's Center for Counseling and Well-Being as a Graduate Assistant - Student Support. This role is an excellent opportunity for a graduate student in a behavioral health program to gain hands-on experience in case management, crisis intervention, and student support.

Job Summary:

The Graduate Assistant - Student Support will work under the general direction of the Counseling Center clinical staff to promote holistic student wellness. This involves helping students gain awareness of and access to solutions to their barriers to academic success. The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct triage assessments with students who walk in or are scheduled with the Center for Counseling and Well-Being
  • Facilitate client access to community resources, including locating recreational activities, housing, food, clothing, school programs, vocational opportunities, or services
  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate treatment/care plans and progress in collaboration with the clinical team
  • Link students to campus and community resources
  • Engage in follow-up and connection to referrals and resources
  • Conduct skills coaching and educational workshops on various wellness topics
  • Document all client encounters and complete records/reports related to student services provided

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse community
  • Ability to collaborate well with internal and external partners
  • Ability to provide care that is effective, equitable, and student-centered
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage daily documentation
  • Skills for addressing complex challenges and applying crisis management strategies
  • Commitment to high standards of confidentiality as indicated by federal, state, local laws, university policy, and ethical guidelines

Enrollment Requirements:

Student employees must be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible to work any UCO student position. Half-time enrollment for fall/spring semesters is considered 5 hours for graduates and 6 hours for undergraduates. International students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible to work as a student employee.
