About the Role

The Department of Surgery at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Education Coordinator to join our dynamic team. As an Education Coordinator, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing continuing medical education (CME) activities and surgical fellowships within the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • CME Activities: Develop and implement CME programs in compliance with accreditation standards and guidelines, coordinate scheduling, logistics, and promotion of CME events, manage registration processes, participant evaluations, and documentation for CME activities.
  • Surgical Fellowship Support: Support the administration and coordination of surgical fellowship programs within the department, serve as the secondary point of contact for prospective and current surgical fellows, provide guidance and support throughout the application, selection, and onboarding processes, coordinate educational activities, rotations, and evaluations for surgical fellows in collaboration with program directors and faculty mentors.
  • Facilitate Educational Resources and Support: Develop and maintain educational resources, including online platforms, learning modules, and educational materials for surgical education and training, provide support and guidance to faculty and staff involved in educational initiatives, including curriculum development, assessment, and implementation of best practices in surgical education, foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development among faculty, residents, and fellows within the department.
  • Administrative Duties: Assist with managing budgets, contracts, and administrative tasks related to educational programs and activities, maintain accurate records, databases, and reports to track CME credits, fellowship activities, and program metrics, collaborate with departmental leadership and administrative staff to ensure effective communication and coordination of educational initiatives with other departments and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in education, healthcare administration, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in education coordination, preferably in a healthcare or academic setting.
  • Strong knowledge of accreditation standards and requirements for CME and surgical fellowship programs.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in project management, event planning, and use of educational technology platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to promoting excellence in surgical education, training, and professional development.
