Position Summary

We're seeking a highly motivated MHA Intern to join our team. This role provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in healthcare management and direction. Through a combination of job shadowing, attending executive meetings, and completing projects, you'll gain a deep understanding of the operations of a surgical department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administration: You'll work closely with department administrators and clinical leaders on strategic projects and assignments, attending meetings, developing agendas, and managing timelines.
  • Project Management: You'll be responsible for managing a variety of projects, ensuring excellence, quality, and professionalism in your work.
  • Human Resources: You'll be exposed to HR activities, including conducting interviews, recruiting and selecting candidates, developing job descriptions, and assisting with policy and procedure updates.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in a Master of Health Administration or Master of Business Administration Program
  • Exceptional skills and knowledge in computer software packages, especially Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of healthcare industry terms
  • Flexible in time and job duties
  • High level of professionalism, problem-solving, and critical thinking
  • Knowledge and experience in researching, analyzing, and compiling data
Duration and Work Expectations

Onboarding will take place in August, with approximately 30 hours per week during the summer months and 20 hours per week during academic semesters. The position extends for approximately two years, from the start of your program in August through May two years later.

Please note that if you're employed as a university employee working in any of the health system's facilities, you'll need to follow VCU Health System policies, including vaccination requirements.
