Chief Purpose of this Position
The Department of Surgery at the Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly qualified transplant surgeon to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of transplant surgery, including inpatient rounds, clinics, consults, surgeries, and education. This position will also support the procurement of donor organs and contribute to the advancement of our research program.

Position Responsibilities

Teaching
As a faculty member, you will have teaching responsibilities in all areas of transplant surgery, including the training of undergraduate and graduate students.

Research
You will be expected to establish clinical research projects, publish in refereed journals, and secure external funding. You will also develop interdisciplinary collaborations to enhance our research program and mentor students in their research laboratory.

Service
You will serve on departmental and/or university committees as necessary and contribute to your field through reviewing, conference organizing, and other professional activities.

Clinical
Your clinical responsibilities will include deceased and living donor kidney and liver transplantation, pancreas transplantation, and dialysis access. You will also have opportunities to work in an extensive multidisciplinary hepato-biliary surgery practice.

Required Qualifications
  • Board certification/board eligibility in transplant surgery or equivalent
  • ASTS fellowship training in multi-organ transplantation and procurement
  • Able to meet licensing requirements in Virginia and be UNOS certified or eligible
  • Prior experience teaching residents and medical students
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Board certification in general surgery during the course of the appointment
  • Training in robotic surgery
