Job Summary:

The Compensation and Extended Leave Specialist will be responsible for overseeing, managing, and processing workers' compensation leave of absence cases, ensuring adherence to state and local rules and regulations, and agency protocols, standards, policies, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process workers' compensation claims in the Workers Compensation System (WCS) and in CityTime, as well as personnel transactions in the New York City Automated Personnel System (NYCAPS), in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Generate and distribute bi-weekly/monthly reports by consolidating data from multiple data sources using Microsoft Excel, and by utilizing reporting tools found in other agency systems, for operational and decision-making purposes, as well as with third-party agencies.
  • Administer and monitor workers' compensation sick leave grants and pay programs that are authorized to maintain eligible employees in pay status, while ensuring compliance with grant criteria.
  • Process restorations of time, as authorized by the New York City Law Department.
  • Partner with the NYC Office of Payroll Administration, the agency's Office of Labor Relations, Employee Discipline Unit, Timekeeping and Payroll units, when necessary, regarding workers' compensation leave of absence cases.
  • Prepare and process all managerial lump sum payments for separating managers.
  • Audit years of time usage for any inaccuracies and make corrections as required.
  • Compile supporting documentation such as MD notes and assemble prior non-managerial salary history.
Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, you must possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.

Alternatively, you may possess an associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of administrative supervisory experience.

Education and/or experience equivalent to the above qualifications may also be considered. However, all candidates must possess the one year of administrative or supervisory experience as described above.
