US Tax and Compliance Manager Job Description

ADP is seeking a highly skilled US Tax and Compliance Manager to join our team. As a key member of our payroll operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring strict adherence to all payroll tax regulations and requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all payroll tax requirements.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits to identify and rectify any discrepancies or non-compliance issues.
  • Stay updated with best practices in payroll tax compliance and ensure their integration into our processes.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies to resolve any compliance issues and to ensure alignment with statutory requirements.
Tax Reporting and Filing:
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Operations team to facilitate prior quarter adjustments and where necessary corrected W-2s.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate tax reporting including preparation and filing of all payroll tax returns and corresponding payments.
  • Ensure all payroll tax payments are made timely to avoid penalties and interest.
  • Conduct year-end audits to maximize the accuracy of W-2 reporting.
  • Final review of W-2s and 1099s before distribution to associates.
Risk Management and Mitigation:
  • Identify and assess payroll tax compliance risks and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Implement internal controls to prevent and detect errors or fraud in payroll tax reporting.
  • Review new legislation to determine whether any adjustments to our current process are required and work with teams to facilitate the implementation of those changes.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in relevant skills gained and developed in the same or similar role.
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in payroll tax compliance.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.
  • Experience managing payroll tax audits and resolving complex tax issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
