Job Overview

The Safety Compliance Specialist plays a crucial role in recognizing potential risks that may lead to injuries, illnesses, or damage to property and the environment. This position involves thorough inspections of job sites, equipment, processes, materials, and facilities to identify hazards. Responsibilities may also encompass environmental safety tasks such as water quality assessments and compliance evaluations for environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts comprehensive inspections and audits of job sites and teams, actively promoting safety awareness.
  2. Implements safety initiatives to safeguard employees and ensure safe working environments.
  3. Develops and enforces safety standards and procedures, focusing on risk prevention related to hazardous materials, accidents, and unsafe conditions.
  4. Ensures adherence to federal and state safety regulations and reporting requirements.
  5. Collaborates with the Safety Director to resolve safety-related issues.
  6. Designs and facilitates training programs and materials for staff.
  7. Monitors working conditions to ensure compliance with safety protocols and addresses health-related incidents.
  8. Recommends improvements to employee safety practices.
  9. Maintains confidentiality regarding sensitive information and client programs.
  10. Stays informed about evolving health and safety regulations at both state and federal levels.
  11. Consults with the Safety Director on the implementation of new safety measures.
  12. Builds relationships with healthcare providers to assist Human Resources in managing medical care for injured personnel.
  13. Drafts and updates safety policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  14. Inspects and maintains safety equipment to ensure compliance with standards.
  15. Oversees the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  16. Possesses in-depth knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
  17. Participates in safety training for field staff.
  18. Drives to various job sites during working hours, maintaining a valid driver's license and a driving record in line with company policy.
  19. Maintains a high level of alertness and safety awareness at all times.
  20. Regular attendance and punctuality are essential for effective job performance.
  21. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • The role involves working in outdoor construction settings, exposing the employee to varying weather conditions.
  • Job duties require interaction with hazardous and flammable materials, as well as monitoring heavy machinery.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory for this position.
  • Physical tasks may include climbing, balancing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must adapt to changing demands and priorities while completing job duties efficiently.
  • Maintaining a constant state of alertness is crucial for safe job performance.

Safety Sensitivity:

This position is classified as safety-sensitive due to the regular handling of confidential information and the operation of vehicles and heavy machinery. Maintaining focus and professionalism is essential, as lapses in attention could lead to significant consequences.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred completion of OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Training Course.
  • Experience in Health and Safety roles is advantageous.
  • Management experience is a plus.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of state and federal safety regulations and emergency protocols.
  • Ability to interpret legal and OSHA documentation.
  • Strong communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in delivering job-specific safety training.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead teams effectively.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Ability to remain calm and direct personnel during emergencies.
  • Familiarity with company safety procedures.
  • Critical thinking skills to analyze safety and operational procedures.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to work overtime and flexible hours as needed.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
