Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Credit and Risk Management to join our team at Wilmington Savings Fund Society. As a key member of our Credit department, you will be responsible for leading the underwriting process for middle ticket transactions, providing credit analysis and recommendations, and working closely with our Sales and Risk teams to ensure the success of our business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwriting and Credit Analysis
    • Directly underwrite middle ticket transactions ($100,000 to $1,000,000) in accordance with our Credit Policies and Procedures.
    • Provide concise analysis of equipment finance requests by reviewing business financial statements, including income statements, cash flow statements, balance sheets, tax returns, personal financial statements, and collateral appraisal reports (when available).
    • Perform financial spread and analysis of business financial statements and tax returns to determine the applicant's overall financial condition and their capacity to repay.
    • Based on the assessment of an applicant's commercial and financial profile, provide an individual credit recommendation.
  • Leadership and Team Management
    • Lead and manage the Credit underwriting team, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure the team's success.
    • Work closely with our Sales team to promote a win-win Credit and Sales culture.
    • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with our Management team across all functional departments.
  • Risk Management and Compliance
    • Perform fraud checks and due diligence while underwriting and assessing new equipment finance requests.
    • Must understand, abide, and uphold our audit procedures and internal controls related to essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Provide exceptional customer service and communicate effectively with our customers, Sales team, and other stakeholders.
    • Work closely with our Risk Analytics and Senior Credit Management teams to manage channel approval and conversion rates, monitor portfolio performance, and external risk trends.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related business fields required.
  • 5+ years of related experience required, preferably within commercial equipment financing or leasing industry.
  • Experience with interacting with bank examiners and third-party audit firms.
  • Ability to understand and interpret business tax returns, financial statements, and business concepts.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, and computer literacy skills required.
  • Good working knowledge of other functional departments and their interactions with the Credit department.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to leverage relationship-building skills.
  • Customer service focus and a professional approach to servicing B2B relationships.
