DEPARTMENT MISSION

The mission of this department is to ensure the safety and cleanliness of the facility and its inhabitants by managing resident work assignments, overseeing janitorial and maintenance tasks, and handling supplies and equipment utilized in facility operations.

OUTCOMES

The facility is consistently maintained to meet all standards set forth by The Salvation Army, contractual obligations, accreditation requirements, and government regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Develops and implements a comprehensive cleaning schedule for residents.
  2. Collaborates with various departments to maintain a clean, sanitary, and hazard-free environment.
  3. Manages the maintenance, repair, and secure storage of facility property and supplies.
  4. Supervises and organizes resident work assignments.
  5. Ensures that resident disciplinary work assignments are completed and properly documented.
  6. Maintains accurate records of all documentation.
  7. Ensures that program vehicles are in proper working order.
  8. Conducts weekly inspections of program vehicles, ensuring cleanliness and minor maintenance, documenting these activities for management.
  9. Removes program vehicles from service for repairs as necessary.
  10. Regularly checks program vehicles to confirm that all necessary tools and safety equipment are present and functional.
  11. Provides transportation for staff and residents as authorized by management.
  12. Conducts weekly orientation sessions for residents.
  13. Delivers ongoing training on essential topics such as hazardous materials, safety precautions, and communicable diseases.
  14. Works collaboratively with other staff to ensure the facility and its property are maintained to high standards.
  15. Must possess a valid driver's license and pass the required driving record check.
  16. Performs additional duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position reports directly to the Assistant Program Director and supervises the janitorial staff.

The Janitorial Supervisor collaborates closely with Program Managers, Shift Supervisors, Security Services Supervisor, and other personnel.

In relation to this position's responsibilities, this individual represents The Salvation Army and its mission.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

Performance will be assessed based on standards set by facility program directives, including the timeliness and effectiveness of task completion and results from audits.

A performance review will be conducted regularly.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred; however, a high school diploma may be acceptable with substantial relevant experience.
  • Significant experience in janitorial and maintenance roles is required, along with knowledge of minor repairs such as patching and painting.

POSITION LIMITATIONS

  • This individual will only allocate resources that have been approved.
  • Will keep the Assistant Program Director informed of all critical issues related to their responsibilities.
  • Must adhere to all policies and procedures while fulfilling job duties.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • This role requires moderate to heavy physical activity and the ability to lift or move items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Regular standing and walking for extended periods, along with bending, kneeling, and reaching, are necessary.
  • The work environment includes both office and residential settings with moderate noise levels.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by fostering respectful communication and relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
