Department Overview

The Electric Operations division is dedicated to ensuring the provision of safe and dependable electric service to our clientele. This team oversees all facets of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, which encompass planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, business strategy, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

This role is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining agreements.

Under general supervision, this position requires sound judgment and discretion, taking responsibility for the comprehensive development and execution of assigned projects while serving as the primary contact for these initiatives. Projects typically span multiple years, involve substantial risk management, and may include formal partnerships with external firms. Assignments are highly visible, necessitating extensive project management expertise and often requiring specific disciplines and areas of specialization, such as:

  • Electric transmission substation initiatives
  • Electric transmission line undertakings

This position operates in a hybrid model, balancing remote work with on-site responsibilities based on business requirements. The designated work location will be within the PG&E Bay Area-Central Coast region.

Compensation Overview

PG&E is sharing the salary range that the company reasonably anticipates it may offer for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is tailored to the locality of the job. The actual salary provided to an individual will depend on various factors, including but not limited to specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

Salary Range:

CA Minimum: $148,272

CA Maximum: $190,488

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures project objectives are realistic and attainable.
  • Guides engineering teams in conducting complex risk assessments and alternative analyses, along with studies and conceptual designs for presentation to project sponsors.
  • Manages and oversees EPC contracts in accordance with ESC guidelines.
  • Facilitates negotiations for third-party contracts, supporting other departments as necessary.
  • Develops and promotes company-wide best practices.
  • Delivers presentations to PG&E Officers as required.
  • Resolves conflicts within the project through arbitration.
  • Mentors and advises less experienced project managers.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education and experience.
  • 8 years of experience with PG&E (or 9 years outside) in project management, project controls, engineering, and/or construction.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering for Substation projects and Civil Engineering for Transmission line projects.
  • Familiarity with and experience in electric substations and transmission line projects.
  • Proficient in Project Management tools and current company software, including SAP Financials and Work Management modules, as well as Microsoft Project Scheduling Software.
