Department Overview

The Electric Operations division is dedicated to ensuring the provision of safe and dependable electric services to our clientele. This team oversees all facets of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations, encompassing planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, business strategy, restoration, and emergency response.

Position Summary

This role is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining agreements.

Under general supervision, this position requires the exercise of judgment and discretion, being accountable for all elements of the development and execution of assigned projects. The role serves as the primary contact for these projects. Typically, projects span multiple years, necessitating substantial risk management and may involve formal partnerships with external firms. Assignments are highly visible, demanding extensive project management expertise and often necessitating specific disciplines and areas of knowledge, such as:

  • Electric transmission substation initiatives
  • Electric transmission line initiatives

This position operates in a hybrid model, allowing work from a remote office and the designated work location based on business requirements. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Bay Area-Central Coast region.

Compensation Overview

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.

Salary Range:

CA Minimum: $148,272

CA Maximum: $190,488

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensures project objectives are attainable.
  • Guides engineering teams in conducting complex risk assessments and alternative analyses, studies, and conceptual designs for presentation to project sponsors.
  • Manages and oversees EPC contracts in accordance with ESC guidelines.
  • Facilitates negotiations for third-party contracts, supporting other departments as necessary.
  • Develops and promotes company-wide best practices.
  • Delivers presentations to PG&E executives as required.
  • Resolves conflicts within project teams.
  • Mentors and provides support to junior project managers.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent education and experience.
  • 8 years of experience at PG&E (9 years outside) in project management, project controls, engineering, and/or construction.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering for Substation projects and Civil Engineering for Transmission line projects.
  • Knowledge and experience with electric substations and transmission line projects.
  • Proficient in using Project Management tools and current company software, such as SAP Financials and Work Management modules, as well as Microsoft Project Scheduling Software.
