Position Overview:
As a key member of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Podiatrist will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive care for patients with foot and ankle conditions.

Core Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of this role encompass a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Conducting thorough evaluations of patients' conditions through detailed medical history assessments, physical examinations, and the analysis of diagnostic imaging and laboratory results.
  • Administering nonsurgical interventions for various ailments affecting the foot, ankle, and lower leg, which may include at-risk foot care, wound management, and the prescription of orthotic devices to enhance patient mobility.
  • Performing surgical procedures on the foot and ankle, including complex limb salvage, forefoot, rearfoot, and ankle surgeries.
  • Offering expert advice and consultations regarding treatment options and wellness strategies for foot and ankle health.
  • Prescribing appropriate medications and treatment modalities tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Referring patients to other healthcare professionals or specialists when necessary.
  • Delivering foot and ankle care across various settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services.
  • Participating in the on-call rotation and managing emergency podiatric surgical cases as required.
  • Supervising and mentoring residents and students who rotate through the podiatry service.
  • Engaging in quality improvement initiatives related to surgical performance.
  • Completing all necessary electronic documentation and clinical charting in a timely manner, including outcomes reporting.
  • Staying abreast of advancements in podiatric medicine and surgery through research, journal reviews, and attendance at relevant conferences.
  • Fostering collaborative relationships with other healthcare providers and staff across various clinical specialties.
  • Executing additional duties as assigned by the Chief of Podiatry and Chief of Surgical Services.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position, operating Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:

  • A degree in podiatric medicine from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of residency training in an approved specialty program.
  • A valid and unrestricted license to practice podiatry.
  • Preferred experience in rearfoot and ankle reconstruction, minimally invasive techniques, and complex diabetic limb salvage.

Physical Requirements:
The role necessitates the ability to walk, stand, or sit for extended periods, as well as the capacity to bend, lift, and maneuver as needed.
