Position Title: Peer Recovery Specialist

Department: Prevention Links Inc

Reports to: Peer Supervisor

Employment Type: Full Time - 35 hours per week

Role Responsibilities:

The Peer Recovery Specialist will engage with individuals to enhance their ability to pursue personal recovery. Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with clients to create a tailored Recovery Plan that encompasses culturally sensitive services, establishes measurable goals, evaluates strengths, identifies potential obstacles, and tracks progress.
  • Providing education on navigating treatment, social services, and recovery support systems effectively.
  • Delivering recovery support services aligned with the individual’s preferences and assessed needs.
  • Encouraging individuals through various stages of change to foster their recovery journey.
  • Assisting clients in accessing community-based recovery support services.
  • Completing necessary documentation and administrative tasks.
  • Serving as a positive role model by sharing personal experiences, hope, and skills.
  • Maintaining supportive relationships to aid in treatment engagement and retention.
  • Reinforcing the belief that recovery is achievable, built on individual strengths and coping strategies.
  • Helping participants develop skills and resources essential for initiating and sustaining recovery.
  • Contributing to the establishment of a supportive social and physical environment for recovery.
  • Encouraging participation in the recovery community.
  • Advocating for effective community treatment and recovery options.
  • Empowering individuals to make informed and self-directed choices regarding their recovery paths.
  • Providing support through face-to-face interactions and/or telephone communication based on individual preferences.
  • Participating in ongoing training and team meetings.
  • Engaging in outreach initiatives for the region.
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • Personal experience with addiction and recovery, with at least two years of familiarity with recovery principles.
  • Certification as a New Jersey Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) is required or must be obtained within the first six months of employment.
