Job Overview

At Stony Brook Medicine, we are seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant to join our team in the 16S Cardiac unit. This is a full-time night shift position that requires a high level of empathy and care for patients, their families, and visitors.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and have frequent face-to-face interactions with patients and their visitors. The role involves conveying information on treatment procedures, visitor hours, and attempting to encourage and support those who may be despondent or apprehensive.

Key Responsibilities
  • Change simple dressings as directed, give enemas, douches, and irrigations as directed.
  • Apply hot water bottles, aqua K pads, ice bags, and coolers, and hot and cold compresses as directed.
  • Chart and document care and/or behaviors as required.
  • Take temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, and respiration rate.
  • Attend to daily living activities, personal, hygienic, and simple human needs to maintain a comfortable environment for patients.
  • Feed individuals requiring assistance to ensure they receive proper nourishment.
  • Bathe and dress, brush teeth, and trim fingernails and toenails of patients.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and dignity.
  • Perform various housekeeping and cleaning duties related to direct care to ensure the clinical facility is clean, sanitary, orderly, and properly supplied.
Qualifications and Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess or acquire the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities during the probationary period. For Nursing Assistant II, one year of satisfactory full-time experience in providing simple treatment and other patient care services under professional supervision is required. Preferred qualifications include a NYS Certified Nursing Assistant license or certification from an approved certified nursing aide training program, one year of patient care experience, and a High School Diploma or GED.

Benefits and Compensation

We offer a competitive salary range of $34,152 - $38,073 per year, plus additional compensation for location ($3,087) and evening/night shifts ($575).
