Overview

As a pivotal member of the Federal Aviation Administration, you will function as a Staff Support Specialist (MSS-1) within a high-level terminal facility. Your role encompasses providing tactical, strategic, and administrative assistance across various program domains, including training, quality oversight, traffic management, airspace regulations, procedural planning, operational automation, military coordination, special operations, and safety management systems.

Eligibility

This position is available exclusively to current federal employees within the agency.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Staff Support Specialist (MSS-1), you will be responsible for:
  • Delivering tactical and strategic support across multiple program areas.
  • Ensuring quality control and assurance in operational processes.
  • Managing traffic and airspace effectively.
  • Collaborating on procedural plans and program initiatives.
  • Utilizing operational automation tools to enhance efficiency.
  • Coordinating military and special operations as required.
  • Implementing safety management systems and reporting protocols.


The position demands a thorough understanding of the air traffic control sector and familiarity with the integral components of the National Airspace System. You will be expected to apply this expertise to analyze, evaluate, and develop innovative methods, studies, and procedures. The Staff Support Specialist must possess comprehensive knowledge of agency-wide initiatives, facility objectives, and be adept at communicating effectively with diverse audiences. While not mandatory, experience with hardware and software systems is advantageous. Some travel may be necessary, and duties may extend beyond the facility in line with your experience and grade.

Qualifications

To qualify for this role, candidates must demonstrate specialized experience, which includes:

1. Holding an FAA 2152 FV-J/FG-14 or higher position for a minimum of one year; OR

2. Being facility rated or area certified for at least one year at an ATS facility; OR

3. Serving in a MSS/TMC role for a minimum of one year in an ATS facility.

Education

Educational qualifications cannot substitute for the required experience.
