Position Overview
The Surgical Services division is seeking an MHA Intern to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to develop an understanding of the intricacies of management and leadership within a healthcare framework. Through a blend of job shadowing, participation in executive meetings with key leaders across the health system, and engagement in various projects, the MHA Intern will become acquainted with the operations of a surgical department. Responsibilities will include managing short-term initiatives focused on performance enhancement, clinical transformation, service excellence, regulatory compliance, and strategic planning.
Key Responsibilities
Administration: The intern will collaborate with department administrators and clinical leaders on diverse strategic projects and tasks. Participation in departmental and medical center meetings, agenda development, timeline management, and exposure to site planning, project oversight, process optimization, and business strategy will be integral to this role. Project Oversight: The intern will be assigned a range of projects to oversee and will be accountable for their successful execution. Adherence to standards of excellence, quality, and professionalism is essential for effective collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and for presenting findings to senior management. Human Resources Exposure: The intern will gain insight into various HR functions, including conducting interviews, recruiting and selecting candidates, crafting job descriptions, and assisting the associate administrator with the editing, writing, and updating of policies and procedures. Required Qualifications
Enrollment in a Master of Health Administration or Master of Business Administration program. Proficiency in computer software applications, particularly Microsoft Office. Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction. Basic understanding of healthcare industry terminology. Flexibility in work hours and responsibilities. High level of professionalism, problem-solving abilities, and critical thinking skills. Experience in researching, analyzing, and compiling data. Work Expectations
Onboarding will occur at the beginning of the program, with expectations of approximately 30 hours per week during the summer months and around 20 hours per week during academic semesters. The internship is designed to extend over a two-year period, aligning with the duration of the incumbent's academic program.
