General Summary
The School Social Worker plays a crucial role in the East Lansing Public School District by delivering problem-solving services to students, families, and educational staff through various social work interventions, including individual, group, and community support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored support to students through individual and group sessions.
- Contribute to district-wide behavioral initiatives.
- Assist students in developing essential social skills and fostering positive peer relationships.
- Collaborate effectively with educational staff.
- Engage as a member of the Crisis Intervention Team and Mental Health Advisory Committee.
- Facilitate the social-emotional identification and referral process for elementary students.
- Conduct social work evaluations for students with suspected disabilities or those in special education.
- Offer pre-referral consultations for educators regarding students facing behavioral challenges.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and Individualized Education Program discussions.
- Oversee the execution of 504 plans.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program.
- State licensure as a Master of Social Work (MSW).
- Proven skills in report writing, evaluation, and interviewing.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills to meet deadlines for documentation.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
