Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Social Service Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience working in crisis intervention and be able to model open communication, fair and equitable treatment, and display caring and compassion.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the facility in absence of Program Manager
  • Assist in development of policies and procedures under direction of Program Manager
  • Maintain staff schedule and approve shift-changes for social service assistants in coordination with Program Manager
  • Assist in completing billing and payroll for facility and staff as needed
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and conferences as requested
  • Maintain all records and logs
  • Provide staff support when on-call
  • Assist in providing coverage for open shifts and call offs when on-call
  • Undertake risk assessments according to policies and procedures
  • Assist in initiation, development, and oversight of new aspects of service provision including use and access to ordinary community facilities
  • Provide direct supervision to local social service assistants
  • Support Case Manager and their duties in their absence and/or as needed
  • Assist with provision of wide range of practical, personal, social, and general care services for residents
  • Undertake comprehensive assessments of resident's needs and develop appropriate support plan with resident, as needed
  • Monitor and review agreed support plan according to changing needs of resident, as needed
  • Promote resident involvement by maximizing participation in decision-making process within services, as needed
  • Communicate and liaise with various agencies (e.g. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Services Commission, Probation Services, Housing Authority, Landlords, Department of Jobs and Family Services, Legal and Consumer Credit Organizations)
  • Accompany residents to appointments with any of above agencies if necessary
  • Collects, provides and updates required data for HMIS database, as needed
  • Participate in community-wide events promoting services
  • Promote anti-discriminatory practice ensuring that no veteran resident is discriminated against on grounds of race, class, gender, religious beliefs, disability, or sexual orientation
  • Apply Housing First, Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction principles and use Motivational Interviewing, and De-escalation Techniques as appropriate
  • Provide level of support necessary to ensure all residents experience improved quality of life (e.g. leisure facilities, social skills, enabling informed choices, and therapeutic skills)
  • Operate within existing social service assistant system
  • Foster positive working relationships with other staff members
  • Help Program Manager, staff, and residents maintain up-to-date knowledge of internal fire regulations and procedures and any other emergency procedures ensures health and safety standards are maintained
  • Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements
Requirements
  • Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal back ground check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation)
  • Ability to model open communication, fair and equitable treatment, and display caring and compassion
  • Excellent in-person, phone, email and written communication skills for team members and clients, even in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of community services
  • Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certification
  • Must possess Microsoft Word skills
  • Must have reliable transportation and a phone
