Desktop Support Technician

The Desktop Support team at Howard Community College is seeking a part-time/hourly Desktop Support Technician to provide first-level technical support for students, faculty, and staff in the computer open lab and rooms on campus.

This includes diagnostics and troubleshooting of hardware and software issues, training and assisting students and faculty on using software and hardware, and open area printer supply management.

The successful candidate will work with other members of the department to update knowledge articles, flyers, and improve the technology experience for students.

This is a seasonal assignment for the Fall and Spring semesters.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical support for students, faculty, and staff
  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting of hardware and software issues
  • Training and assisting students and faculty on using software and hardware
  • Open area printer supply management
  • Working with other members of the department to update knowledge articles and flyers

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift computers, peripherals, and simulation equipment up to 25-lbs.
  • Knowledge of common software such as Windows, Office, Canvas, macOS, and iPadOS
  • Knowledge of basic computer hardware such as microphones, laptops, printers, monitors, and webcams
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Regular attendance is a requirement of this job
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

Working conditions:

This position is part-time/hourly and is a seasonal assignment for the Fall and Spring semesters.

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with a diverse group of students, faculty, and staff.
