Salary and BenefitsThe starting compensation for this role based in Boston is between $57,000 to $86,000 per year. The salary will depend on various factors including relevant professional experience, education, certifications, and tenure with Uncommon Schools.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes generous paid time off, extensive training and development opportunities, choice of health insurance plans, and pre-tax flexible spending accounts. We also offer pension through Mass. Teachers Retirement System, 403(b) retirement savings program, and 529 college savings program.
Job DescriptionHigh School Spanish TeacherYou will work in grade level and content teams to develop students who are global citizens. You will become experts in your course content, and have a keen sense of how to motivate and inspire high school students.
Communicating in Spanish is at the heart of all classes. You will use a variety of instructional strategies to create an environment where students feel safe expressing themselves in a new language. At the conclusion of high school, students will be prepared for academic autonomy and college preparatory work.
Responsibilities:- Build students' bilingual skills and enhance their understanding of the Spanish language using a curriculum that prepares them for Advanced Placement (AP) and collegiate level coursework.
- Help students gain confidence in navigating print and audio authentic sources.
- Teach students how to build and enhance their foreign language skills—reading, writing, speaking and listening.
- Cultivate students' cultural awareness by helping them learn a new language.
- Share your passion for the Spanish language to build a community of students who are confident in speaking Spanish.
- Work with the Spanish department to develop academic and engagement goals for students.
You will meet weekly with your principal and/or instructional coach to analyze and respond to trends in student work samples and assessments. You will learn and implement strategies to differentiate instruction for all learners in your classroom.
You will build positive relationships with students to ensure they feel seen, loved, and heard. You will partner with students' families to ensure appropriate resources are available to support their child's learning needs.
QualificationsWe are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual who is passionate about teaching and making a difference in the lives of our students. You should have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required.
