Position: Quality Assurance Supervisor

Location: Pacific, Missouri

General Purpose:

The Quality Assurance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and guiding the quality assurance and laboratory teams to ensure that all products meet the highest standards of food safety and quality. This role involves monitoring quality processes at every stage, ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. In collaboration with the quality manager, the supervisor will help cultivate a robust culture of food safety and quality within the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and execution of food safety and quality programs to meet regulatory and corporate standards.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of quality records, including laboratory documentation and critical control points.
  • Create, evaluate, and implement quality assurance protocols.
  • Propose enhancements to testing methods and coordinate necessary laboratory equipment procurement.
  • Support the quality manager in managing the pathogen environmental monitoring program, including swabbing oversight and corrective action investigations.
  • Deliver ongoing training and guidance to staff on food safety, quality, and compliance issues.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives and collaborate with various departments to address ongoing challenges and implement new procedures.
  • Facilitate customer, regulatory, and third-party quality audits.
  • Investigate quality-related issues and customer complaints, implementing effective solutions.
  • Maintain and support existing certifications such as SQF, Kosher, Halal, and Organic.
  • Supervise the activities of hourly employees to ensure adherence to quality standards.
  • Communicate any changes in processes or products to employees promptly.
  • Recruit and retain skilled personnel through effective training and clear expectations.
  • Promote effective communication practices across all levels of the organization.
  • Foster a positive work environment with direct reports.
  • Establish and implement material standards and inspection procedures to enhance product quality.
  • Monitor inspection and testing procedures to ensure product safety and customer satisfaction.
  • Analyze quality data to evaluate product performance and utilize statistical tools to address unfavorable trends.
  • Perform supervisory tasks, including employee evaluations, promotions, and timekeeping reviews.
  • Adhere to good manufacturing practices and corporate regulatory requirements.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in food science, biological sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience in quality assurance or manufacturing, preferably in the food or beverage industry.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills or prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Relevant certifications such as PCQI, HACCP, or SQF Practitioner are advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) in both laboratory and production settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and company-specific software.
  • Understanding of supervisory principles, training methods, and personnel management.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills.
  • Able to perform basic arithmetic as required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and promote teamwork.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills.
  • Capability to present suggestions for process improvements.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism.
  • Courteous and efficient in handling inquiries and complaints.
  • Competence in interpreting and applying company policies.
  • Adaptability to change and initiative in job performance.
