Position Overview:
The Certified Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in assisting pharmacists by preparing, compounding, and dispensing medications. All activities are conducted under the oversight of a licensed Pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepares and compounds medications, including sterile products, oral and topical medications, and controlled substances, as authorized by a physician and under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist.
  • Delivers and exchanges medications to designated patient areas and manages the return of unused medications to the pharmacy.
  • Records pharmaceutical activities, including patient billing for medications and equipment, ensuring compliance with quality control standards using both automated and manual systems.
  • Responds to customer inquiries regarding pharmacy services, including medication delivery and drug information.
  • Operates automated dispensing systems to ensure accurate medication delivery based on orders from pharmacists and physicians.
  • Manages inventory by ordering, receiving, restocking, and rotating supplies, while ensuring proper expiration date management.
  • Assists in training new staff members, providing guidance on job-specific responsibilities.
  • Participates in process improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Conducts regulatory compliance inspections of medication storage areas, including controlled substance inventories and necessary documentation as required.

Additional Information:
Education Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED; completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program is preferred.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:
  • Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy unless currently enrolled in a PharmD program.
  • CPhT certification from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA unless currently enrolled in a PharmD program.

Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a pharmacy technician is preferred.
