Contracts and Grants Manager

As a Contracts and Grants Manager at the University of California, Irvine, you will play a critical role in the administration of federal, state, and private contract and grant funding received by the university. This position requires a high level of expertise in contracts and grants transactions, as well as a strong understanding of related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise support staff working on grants or contracts according to established policies, practices, and defined internal controls.
• Receive pre-determined work that are subject to a moderate level of control and review.
• Exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.
• Identify risks and respond accordingly.
• Provide priority setting and work flow analysis.
• Use advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high volume and high complexity transactions.
Requirements
• Thorough knowledge of contracts and grants transactions and applicable financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Thorough knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional, and departmental policies.
• Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions.
• Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
• Demonstrated advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles.
• Demonstrated advanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports.
• Proficiency in use of common desktop/web applications.
• Strong interpersonal skills, service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high volume environment, judgment, and decision-making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in contracts and grants accounting, managing the post-award life cycle, and supervisor experience.
Preferred Qualifications
• Thorough knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation, Code of Federal Regulations, sponsor-specific policies, intellectual property policies, conflict of interest requirements, publication rights, application of indirect cost rates, and other complex concepts in research administration.
• Thorough knowledge of policy and its interpretations.
