Job Overview

The Mixologist plays a crucial role in delivering exceptional experiences that align with the goals and overall success of the hotel by achieving performance targets related to the hotel's social venues. The mixologist is responsible for setting up, serving, and dismantling the bar area while ensuring high standards of quality, consistency, and service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guest Interaction: Welcome guests warmly as they approach the bar; promote signature drinks and utilize upselling techniques to enhance revenue.
  • Beverage Preparation: Craft beverages as requested by patrons. Follow established pouring standards and drink recipes to ensure a consistent product and manage costs. Collaborate with restaurant staff for food service to bar/lounge guests when necessary.
  • Monitoring Service: Observe guest behavior and alcohol consumption to determine when to cease alcohol service; inform management of any incidents involving excessive consumption or impairment; verify identification when the age of a guest is uncertain.
  • Service Recovery: Notify management of any service or safety concerns. Implement appropriate recovery gestures according to established protocols to guarantee complete guest satisfaction.
  • Bar Setup: Prepare the bar with all necessary liquor, mixers, ice, garnishes, glassware, and supplies. Complete pre- and post-shift tasks (empty/fill ice bins, prepare garnishes, restock snacks, etc.). Order all required supplies.
  • Inventory Management: Account for unused liquor and beverages. Ensure all liquor is securely stored before, during, and after shifts.
  • Cash Handling: Obtain, count, and secure the bartender's bank; process cash and credit payments from customers; provide accurate change and balance the cash drawer at the end of the shift.
  • Cleanliness Standards: Inspect the bar daily for cleanliness and appeal, ensuring all equipment operates correctly. Clean the bar area after shifts, including sweeping and mopping the floor, and wiping down surfaces.
  • Team Collaboration: Foster teamwork and quality service through effective communication and coordination with other departments.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:

Basic reading, writing, and math skills are essential. Familiarity with liquor brands, beer, wine, champagne, non-alcoholic beverages, glassware, preparation methods, and garnishments is required. Formal bartending training is preferred. Must meet state legal age requirements and speak fluent English.
  • OLCC Certification Required
  • Food Handlers Certification Required
This position requires the ability to:
  • Handle, carry, or lift items weighing up to 50 pounds (barware, carts, boxes, bottles, etc.).
  • Move throughout the bar, lounge, and kitchen areas.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and lift as necessary.
Communication Skills:

Effective communication skills are essential when interacting with guests, wait staff, cooks, and supervisors.

Additional certifications such as alcohol awareness certification and/or food service permits or valid health/food handler cards may be required by local or state regulations.

Basic math skills are frequently utilized when managing cash and credit transactions.

Availability to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays may be necessary.
