Position Overview
ROLE SUMMARY:
The role involves engaging in physical labor to carry out a range of cleaning and minor maintenance tasks within the general facilities of the University.
Work is conducted following established cleaning and maintenance protocols, which may be subject to inspection during and after completion to ensure compliance with standards.
Responsibilities include monitoring both the exterior and interior security of the building. The role requires the operation of various machines as part of daily responsibilities.SUPERVISION STRUCTURE:
This position receives direct oversight from the designated shift Group Leader. It is classified as non-exempt from overtime.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reliability - Responsible for cleaning restrooms and restocking supplies; addressing plumbing issues and reporting repair needs; collecting and disposing of waste; maintaining a supply closet with necessary products and equipment.
Operational Knowledge - Engages in cleaning, polishing, dusting, and maintaining hard surfaces, including furniture, walls, ledges, doors, windows, fixtures, and floors; performs floor stripping and refinishing.
Standards of Quality - Cleans and maintains fabric surfaces, including furniture upholstery, wall coverings, curtains, blinds, rugs, and carpets.

Workload Management - Moves furniture, equipment, and supplies; organizes furniture in designated areas according to specifications and/or prepares for events by setting up and dismantling rooms and banquet areas.
Decision-Making - Secures rooms and other areas as part of daily responsibilities and may serve as a guard or night watchman during incidental assignments.
Support for Organizational Operations - Inspects building and custodial equipment for proper functionality; performs minor maintenance tasks; replaces light bulbs; checks and adheres to daily schedules of events for specific areas to ensure readiness for activities.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
- Responds to inquiries regarding building events and services from the public and specific users.
- Handles requests for cleaning up spills and assists in emergencies related to weather or building systems.
- Performs other assigned duties as necessary.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS:
- Familiarity with materials, methods, tools, and practices involved in custodial and housekeeping operations.
- Ability to learn the operation and maintenance of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
- Capability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to building fixtures and equipment.
- Ability to exercise caution in the use of cleaning materials for various building surfaces.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and others.
- Physical ability to lift and carry heavy objects.
- Ability to comprehend and follow explicit instructions, both orally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Some experience in housekeeping and/or custodial duties.
- Valid driver's license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Moderate experience in housekeeping and custodial work within a large facility.
