Job Summary

This position supports the U.S. Department of the Interior in the formulation of projects for the management, maintenance, repair, and construction of National Park Service facilities, including buildings, utilities, trails, roads, and other physical assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with parks to analyze facility problems or needs, gather data, and develop project need statements and justifications.
  • Create basic project outlines and budgetary cost estimates with technical staff support.
  • Assist in the creation of detailed project cost estimates and contribute to project narratives.
  • Develop schematic design alternatives and prepare Class C cost estimates.
  • Participate in the design process for new facilities or modifications to existing facilities.
  • Serve as a source of technical expertise for the National Park Service.
  • Provide assistance to the Contracting Officer in developing design scopes of services and preparing independent government estimates.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Direct Deposit: Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Driver's License: You will be required to operate a government motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
  • Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards.
  • Work Schedule: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Probationary Period: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements for the job series and possess the minimum qualifications by close of the announcement.

The basic requirements for the job series include a Bachelor's or higher degree in engineering, landscape architecture, or architecture, or a combination of education and experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture.

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

This experience includes activities such as communication and problem-solving skills, technical knowledge and experience in the fields of engineering, landscape architecture, architecture, civil engineering, and/or mechanical engineering, and experience in reviewing plans and specifications and performing work in support of complex design and construction projects.
