Role Summary:
The Healthcare Access Coordinator (HAC) serves as the initial point of contact for patients and their families, whether in person or via phone. This role is crucial in enhancing the patient experience by ensuring seamless interactions that positively influence patient care. The HAC collaborates closely with all members of the healthcare team and is responsible for a variety of administrative tasks, including managing incoming calls, scheduling appointments, welcoming patients, and processing copayments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Intake and Appointment Management (85%):
- Welcome patients in a warm, professional, and attentive manner.
- Register patients using the practice management system, ensuring accuracy in demographic, insurance, and billing information.
- Maintain high standards of communication with colleagues and supervisors.
- Verify patient identifiers to comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Schedule appointments according to the health center's established protocols.
- Handle daily cash collections in line with financial policies, ensuring secure management of payments and providing receipts.
- Stay informed about insurance plans and requirements to facilitate proper billing and payment processes.
- Conduct insurance verifications as directed by the management team.
- Reconcile cash collections and report to the Accounting Manager daily.
- Provide backup support at the front desk as needed.
- Ensure timely patient flow through reception and registration.
- Perform other clerical tasks as assigned by management.
- Engage in additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience in a healthcare environment.
- Familiarity with computer systems, particularly the EPIC System.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, with proficiency in English required.
- Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole is preferred.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and adaptability are necessary.
