We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Media Monitoring Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA).

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring print media, TV & Radio broadcasts, and social media for news about or concerning the department, our staff, or businesses/industries regulated by the department. They will also be responsible for alerting relevant information to internal stakeholders promptly, compiling the "Weekly Communications Report," and tracking and maintaining the Communications Division's "Master Tracker."

The ideal candidate will have a background/knowledge of Georgia's agriculture industry, be proficient with social media and Microsoft Suites, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills. They will also be able to multitask, work independently, and meet deadlines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor print media, TV & Radio broadcasts, and social media for news about or concerning the department, our staff, or businesses/industries regulated by the department
  • Alert relevant information to internal stakeholders promptly
  • Compile the "Weekly Communications Report"
  • Track and maintain the Communications Division's "Master Tracker"
  • Create and send multiple newsletters via MailChimp
  • Assist with social media creative and copy, press release copy, website copy, and other communications needs at the direction of the Communications Director

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Proficient with social media – Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and LinkedIn
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suites – Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Background/Knowledge of Georgia's agriculture industry
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask
  • Video editing and graphic design experience
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, Communications, or an agriculture-related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Selection Process:

Background Checks:

The Georgia Department of Agriculture conducts background checks on all final candidates. The hiring of applicants is contingent upon satisfactory employment verification results, background, criminal records investigations, and motor vehicle reports.

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate will be required to have a high school diploma/GED and four (4) years of professional job-related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.

Work Environment:

The Media Monitoring Specialist will work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and priorities. They will be required to work independently and as part of a team to meet the needs of the Communications Division.
