Job Overview

The Rail Project Manager I is responsible for overseeing and executing projects related to rail and truck equipment, workforce management, project duration, and financial aspects. This role involves evaluating regulatory and technical components of projects, ensuring comprehensive management from inception to completion. The manager will conduct site visits at various stages of the project to guarantee safety and satisfaction for both internal and external stakeholders, while also providing support to fellow project managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes Health & Safety as the foremost objective by adhering to established policies and procedures, and consistently acting in a safe manner.
  • Coordinates project initiation by organizing resources, scheduling site visits, and procuring necessary supplies, equipment, and personnel.
  • Oversees complex shipping operations associated with remediation projects, including transportation and offsite disposal.
  • Manages the tracking and waybilling of railcars loaded with hazardous materials, ensuring efficient planning to meet project capacity needs and avoid additional costs.
  • Engages with internal and external clients, contractors, subcontractors, and rail service providers.
  • Maintains strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle and provides regular progress updates. Delivers timely and relevant information to clients, management, and team members.
  • Accountable for project efficiency, adherence to timelines and budgets, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols at project sites and rail facilities.
  • Assists in project planning and budget formulation; may draft proposals outlining project scope and financial requirements.
  • Ensures accurate and timely billing for clients.
  • Possesses a solid understanding of various federal, state, and local regulations pertinent to the industry.
  • Willingness to travel up to 75% of the time.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; some college education preferred; a four-year degree is advantageous.

Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in waste management or environmental project management is required.

Skills and Competencies: This role is safety-sensitive, requiring constant alertness and safe operational practices. Proficiency in operating various lift and off-road equipment is beneficial. Must be skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with DOT, FRA, OSHA, and EPA regulations is a plus. Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential for effective communication with stakeholders. Regular and predictable attendance is a fundamental aspect of this position.
