About the Johns Hopkins University

The Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at The Johns Hopkins University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Director for Internal Communications. This role will play a vital part in designing and leading the internal communication efforts of the Dean's Office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as internal communications lead for the Krieger School, ensuring seamless communication between school leadership, faculty, staff, students, and other members of the community.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy to support the KSAS Dean's Office and its strategic priorities.
  • Plan, create, oversee, and edit internal communications strategies aimed at keeping Krieger School faculty, staff, and students informed about important initiatives, goals, and events.
  • Contribute to school-wide reports documenting the school's activities and progress.
  • Work closely with members of the Dean's Office to create and write collateral around internal initiatives.
  • Ensure the efficiency and efficacy of communications between school leadership and faculty, staff, students, and other members of the Krieger School community.
  • Foster strong relationships with the Krieger School communications team and the Dean's Office.
  • Write clear and effective content for internal audiences, adapting writing styles based on format, message, audience, and purpose.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field or equivalent experience.
  • Four years of related experience, or additional education may substitute for required experience.
  • Strong presentational, organizational, copy-editing, and digital skills.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with proven ability to multi-task and process data quickly with high accuracy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences and adapt writing styles for various mediums.
  • Strong customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and cultural responsiveness.
  • Experience using content management systems (CMS) like WordPress and email marketing platforms such as Staffbase or MailChimp.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computer literacy, word processing, and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to translate complex information into clear, concise messages for diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Intermediate level of independent decision making, exercising discretion and aligning decisions with best practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Capable of lifting and carrying items up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to walk across campus for distances up to 1 mile occasionally.

Salary Range

$62,900 - $110,100 Annually ($90,000 targeted; commensurate with experience)
