Job Summary

The Operations Manager will play a crucial role in planning, implementing, managing, and evaluating division/service activities for Children's National Medical Center. This position requires a strong understanding of national standards and administrative policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic plans for division/service activities.
  • Collaborate with the Center Director to address operational issues and develop action plans to resolve them.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of division services, programs, policies, and procedures to achieve divisional goals.
  • Develop and implement systems to monitor and improve performance and service quality.
  • Prepare documentation and projections to support the divisional operating and capital budget planning process.
  • Evaluate and recommend the purchase of new equipment needed to maximize productivity and quality of care.
  • Implement actions to facilitate meeting budget requirements and administer division/program within budgetary guidelines.
  • Monitor monthly performance reports and budget variances and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Evaluate reimbursement and denial trends and develop and implement action plans to address issues.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and implementation of new ventures, services, and partnerships.
  • Work with the Center Director to develop evaluation tools to measure each aspect of clinical delivery.
  • Identify new sources of funding and write template proposals.
  • Assist in preparing grant reports two weeks prior to the due date, including expense reports/statements for director's edit and approval.
  • Monitor monthly special purpose funds performance reports and resolve discrepancies as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Center Director in all hiring and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure all personnel records are complete and annual reviews are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure all personnel are in compliance with Occupational Health requirements.
  • Ensure all clinical personnel are in compliance with the Medical Staff Office.
  • Ensure training and competency of all administrative staff with documentation as required by JCAHO standards.
  • Manage all employee grievances, worker's compensation, or occupational health concerns in collaboration with the director and the appropriate CNMC department.
  • Collaborate with the Government and Community Affairs department to promote community events.
  • Serve as the liaison between CNMC and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the availability of promotional items at community events.
  • Develop business plans for new programs, sites, or equipment.
  • Create project plans with milestones, deliverables, and accountability assignments.
  • Deliver projects on time and on budget.
  • Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.
  • Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation.
  • Stop in the face of uncertainty and take time to resolve the situation.
  • Demonstrate accurate, clear, and timely verbal and written communication.
  • Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act, and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Master's Degree (Preferred)
  • 5 years Related and progressive experience (Required)
  • 3 years Program/operations functional management or management/supervisory experience (Required)
  • 3 years Experience in writing/communications, healthcare administration, and non-profit management (Preferred)
  • Familiarity and experience with electronic database research tools, including use of the Internet.
  • Understanding of management information systems and technology is helpful.
  • Full command of Microsoft Word, Excel, and/or similar software applications.
Work Environment

This position is located at Children's National Medical Center, CN Hospital (Main Campus), 111 Michigan Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20010.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with a full-time schedule.
