Job Title: High Voltage Power Electronics Engineer

Tesla's Power Electronics group is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineer to design and develop high-performance high-voltage power electronics hardware for automotive and energy storage products.

Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and industrialize high-voltage power converter hardware for automotive and energy applications.
  • Take ownership of hardware development from initial specifications to design, prototyping, reliability validation, and production.
  • Capture detailed hardware requirements, build models of power converters, select components, design schematics, perform PCB layouts, and validate prototypes.
  • Design medium-voltage products, such as grid power conditioning systems.
  • Collaborate with systems architecture, mechanical, PCB layout, manufacturing, reliability, and firmware engineering teams to design, test, validate, and manufacture power converters.
  • Design insulation systems at PCBA, subassembly, and cabinet levels, considering dielectric, thermal, viscosity, and structural strength trade-offs for cost-effective mass production.
  • Use multi-physics design and simulation tools (e.g., Altium/OrCAD, Ansys, CATIA/3DX) to support insulation system design.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements for power grid and battery applications.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in designing and industrializing high-voltage power converter products.
  • Strong understanding of power converter topologies and experience with high-voltage semiconductor selection (IGBTs, Si/SiC/GaN MOSFETs, and Diodes), design of gate drive circuits, and analog/digital sensing.
  • Familiarity with insulation design and material selection based on dielectric and thermal properties for reliable mass production.
  • Proficiency in the theory and application of magnetics (inductors, transformers) and capacitors for high-voltage and high-frequency power conversion.
  • Familiar with schematic capture, circuit simulation tools, and PCB layout techniques for minimal inductance/capacitance and EMC optimization.
  • Proficiency with basic EE tools (Oscilloscopes, Network Analyzers, Signal Generators) and test automation programming.
  • Experience with high-frequency transformer insulation system design and high voltage insulated cooling systems.
  • Understanding of safety compliance for grid and battery applications, including UL and CE requirements.
  • Knowledge of basic control theory and experience with embedded programming.
Compensation and Benefits:

Along with competitive pay, as a full-time Tesla employee, you are eligible for the following benefits at day 1 of hire:

  • Aetna PPO and HSA plans > 2 medical plan options with $0 payroll deduction.
  • Family-building, fertility, adoption and surrogacy benefits.

  • Company Paid (Health Savings Account).
  • HSA Contribution when enrolled in the High Deductible Aetna medical plan with HSA.
  • Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
  • LGBTQ+ care concierge services.
  • 401(k) with employer match, Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and other financial benefits.
  • Company paid Basic Life, AD&D, short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • Employee Assistance Program.
  • Sick and Vacation time (Flex time for salary positions), and Paid Holidays.
  • Back-up childcare and parenting support resources.
  • Voluntary benefits to include: critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident insurance, theft & legal services, and pet insurance.
  • Weight Loss and Tobacco Cessation Programs.
  • Tesla Babies program.
  • Commuter benefits.
  • Employee discounts and perks program.

Expected Compensation: $108,000 - $216,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
