Job Title: Field Service Engineer

Job Summary:

Mevion Medical Systems is seeking a highly skilled Field Service Engineer to maintain technical responsibility over the Mevion Proton Therapy System. The successful candidate will learn and become proficient in operating the system for various customer needs and related work functions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the Proton Therapy System, including troubleshooting and post-service testing.
  • Provide high-quality customer support through on-site operation, corrective and preventive maintenance of proton therapy equipment and ancillary devices.
  • Communicate clearly with customers and Mevion employees regarding system status.
  • Work on complex clinical systems related to the Proton Therapy System, including motion control systems, CT scanners, X-ray and radiological technology devices, and robotic manipulators.
  • Ensure Proton Therapy devices perform according to specification, monitor daily treatments, and identify corrections or improvements needed.
  • Report and document complaints and key performance indicators of the PT device.
  • Maintain equipment and systems according to maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and repair PTS equipment, including electrical, mechanical, and software problems.
  • Document interventions and actions undertaken in accordance with facility, RA/QA, and FDA regulations.
  • Meet key performance indicators (throughput, customer satisfaction, uptime).
  • Maintain a high level of professional knowledge and safety consciousness according to Mevion guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean working environment and behavior in line with safety and regulatory rules.
  • Maintain calibrated equipment and tooling according to specifications.
  • Maintain on-site inventory and other part management duties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Service Management.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Engineering, Physics, or related field preferred, or 4-6+ years of technical experience in the Military or equivalent.
  • Experience with radiation therapy equipment is a plus.
  • Electronic/Electrical and Mechanical ability.
  • Experience working with computer interfaces, instrumentation, and control systems.
  • Preferred experience with proton systems.
  • Strong interest in new technology and learning new systems - continuous learning curve.
  • Solid understanding of imaging systems.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and data analysis techniques is required.
  • Medical Physics experience is a plus.

Physical and Environmental Considerations:

  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • Ascend and descend ladders and stairs at heights of up to 20 feet.
  • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Good manual dexterity.
  • Ability to speak fluent English and hear clearly.
  • Ability to work off-shift, nights, weekends, and holidays, with more than 40 hours per week often required.
  • Ability to travel for weeks at a time, sometimes longer, both domestic and international.
  • Must be able to use all standard office equipment, such as a computer, keyboard, copier, and telephone.
  • The employee will work with hazardous materials, radiation-producing equipment, high magnetic fields, high voltages, compressed and liquefied gases, and radioactive materials.
  • This position involves occasional exposure to high magnetic fields and routine exposure to magnetic fields above 5 gauss.
