OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

Life Pacific University is in search of a committed and meticulous individual to fill the role of Student Financial Services Counselor. This position is vital in assisting students and their families by delivering thorough financial aid and student account services. The ideal candidate should possess a solid grasp of financial aid regulations, outstanding communication abilities, and a dedication to creating a nurturing environment for our students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Guidance and Support:

  • Provide advice to students and families regarding financial aid alternatives, application processes, and eligibility criteria.
  • Conduct personalized counseling sessions to aid in financial planning and budgeting for educational costs.
  • Clarify financial aid awards and address any inquiries or concerns related to financial aid packages.
  • Guide students about their account balances and advise them on financial obligations when necessary.
  • Act as the primary point of contact in the office, managing incoming phone calls and student visits.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by addressing and resolving student inquiries and concerns promptly and professionally.
Application Management:
  • Assist students in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other necessary financial aid documents.
  • Review and process financial aid applications, ensuring accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Verify student eligibility for various forms of financial aid, including grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study opportunities.
Outreach and Communication:
  • Design and conduct financial aid workshops, presentations, and informational sessions for prospective and current students.
  • Create and disseminate informational materials related to financial aid processes and deadlines.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, families, and staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain open lines of communication with students regarding their accounts.
Management of Student Accounts:
  • Generate estimated tuition bills at the start of each semester and distribute them to students.
  • Prepare and send monthly statements to students.
  • Manage aged accounts to ensure timely collection of payments.
  • Collect and record payments to student accounts.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Accounts to submit deposits.
  • Generate income reports, including Income by Account, Cash Receipts, and Charges & Adjustments.
  • Process bookstore vouchers with MBS Direct.
  • Facilitate timely refunds to students.
  • Assist the Director of Student Accounts with adjustments and billing tasks.
  • Perform general office duties as required.
  • Oversee the Student Accounts web pages.
Collaboration:
  • Work closely with other financial services staff to ensure seamless service delivery and support for students.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Admissions, Registrar, and Business Office to coordinate financial aid activities and resolve student issues.
  • Engage in professional development activities and stay informed about changes in financial aid regulations and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or a related field is required.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • Experience in financial aid.
  • Strong understanding of federal and state financial aid regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with student information management systems (e.g., Empower, Slate).
Working Conditions:
  • Flexibility in working hours is required, including a variety of evening and weekend schedules throughout the year.
