What does a Crisis Communication Specialist do?

In this role, you will deliver personalized support to adults with developmental disabilities in their residences and within the community. You will receive comprehensive training on the specific support requirements of various clients, be ready to step in and assist during on-call shifts, and provide guidance to staff via phone. You may also need to coordinate coverage for shifts and make last-minute arrangements for client assistance.

A typical day as a Crisis Communication Specialist includes:

  • Coordinating coverage for open shifts with clients
  • Responding to urgent calls from support personnel
  • Engaging with clients' families regarding emergency support as necessary
  • Assisting staff with any unusual situations

When working directly with clients, your day may involve:

  • Providing emotional support and companionship
  • Participating in physical activities and neighborhood walks
  • Engaging in arts and crafts projects
  • Facilitating virtual connections with friends and family
  • Planning and preparing meals
  • Performing light housekeeping tasks
  • Offering personal care assistance
  • Assisting with wheelchair transfers
  • Running errands such as grocery shopping, including using delivery or pickup services.

Who are we seeking?

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of experience in the human services field is preferred
  • A commitment to the principles of inclusion, access, and consumer-driven services
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with clients, their support networks, employers, and other organizations
  • Strong problem-solving skills, both independently and as part of a team
  • A valid California driver's license, a driving record that meets agency standards, auto insurance, and access to a vehicle
  • A willingness to commit to a minimum of one year with the E-Cell team

Work Schedule:

You will be on call for a 24-hour period, from 9 AM to 9 AM weekly, with negotiable shift days. Our services extend throughout the region.

Compensation: $27.26 per hour. Additionally, you will receive a $75 stipend for each 24-hour on-call period on weekdays and a $125 stipend for weekends. Four hours of paid training shifts at $27.26 per hour are guaranteed for each on-call shift.
