Assistant Operations Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Operations Manager to join our team at Ports America. As a key member of our front-line management team, you will be responsible for directing, planning, and supervising the duties associated with terminal operations and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Manage the work activities of foremen, labor, and other personnel to ensure performance expectations and customer needs are met.
- Determine labor needs and ensure accurate ordering for assigned areas.
- Make decisions affecting overtime costs and general expenditures, ensuring they are in the best interests of the company and customers.
- Ensure payroll accuracy and make necessary changes.
- Comply with the company's safety program and ensure all labor and staff adhere to accident prevention and workers' compensation procedures.
- Work closely with M&R/Terminal Departments to ensure equipment allocation meets operational demands.
- Maintain positive relations with labor and ensure Collective Bargaining Agreements are understood and adhered to.
- Address performance issues of employees under supervision and impose corrective action/discipline when necessary.
- Advise leadership on labor matters and assist in resolving grievances.
- Participate in regular training and feedback with labor and management staff.
- Communicate areas of accountability and performance expectations to labor and management staff.
- Develop, maintain, and improve operating and administrative procedures to provide required information and facilitate internal practices.
- Ensure certifications and required training are current for yourself and staff.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and controls, and submit reports accurately and on time.
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as directed by business need.
- Travel to support other operations as needed.
- Bachelor's Degree in any discipline (equivalent combinations of education and experience considered).
- Experience with computerized operating systems.
- Obtain a TWIC Card issued by the Department of Homeland Security.
- Valid US Driver's License.
- Knowledge of safety and accident prevention codes and regulations.
- Knowledge and understanding of cargo stowage and stability.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to manage time efficiently.
- Ability to execute in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to plan and organize to ensure efficient execution of plans.
- Ability to drive and influence the performance of others.
- Ability to make sound decisions and respond quickly to operational issues.
- Climb up and down a ladder on a vessel multiple times within a shift.
- Work on ships and terminal with engine equipment.
- Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions.
- Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast-moving equipment.
- Lift, push, and/or pull up to 30lbs.
