Job Description

Diverse Systems Group LLC is seeking a skilled Construction or Building Inspector to join our team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring public safety, verifying structural integrity, and maintaining quality construction practices throughout the building process.

The ideal candidate will have 10 years of experience in a related field and be knowledgeable about building codes, zoning ordinances, fire safety regulations, and other relevant laws and standards.

Salary: $80,000 - $100,000 per year based on qualifications and location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect construction sites at various stages of the building process, including foundation, framing, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and final inspections, in accordance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of construction projects to verify compliance with building codes, zoning ordinances, fire safety regulations, environmental regulations, and other relevant standards and requirements.
  • Review construction plans, blueprints, specifications, and permit applications to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulatory requirements prior to conducting inspections.
  • Audit the quality of workmanship, materials, and construction practices used in building projects, identify deficiencies, defects, or deviations from approved plans, and provide recommendations for corrective action.
  • Inspect construction sites for safety hazards, adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations, and implementation of appropriate safety measures to protect workers and the public.
  • Document inspection findings, observations, and violations using standardized forms, reports, and inspection logs, and maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions taken.
  • Communicate inspection results, findings, and recommendations to contractors, builders, developers, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders verbally and in writing, and collaborate with them to address issues and achieve compliance.
  • Enforce non-compliance with building codes or regulations by issuing stop-work orders, violation notices, correction orders, and citations, and follow up on enforcement actions to ensure timely resolution of violations.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to property owners, developers, contractors, and the general public regarding building codes, permit requirements, inspection procedures, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain knowledge of changes in building codes, regulations, construction techniques, and industry best practices through ongoing training, education, and professional development activities.

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with building codes, zoning ordinances, fire safety regulations, and other relevant laws, standards, and regulations governing construction activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills, with the ability to identify construction defects, code violations, and safety hazards during inspections.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders and effectively convey technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools and equipment, such as measuring devices, testing instruments, and safety gear, as well as computer software for documenting inspection findings and generating reports.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Willingness to travel and work in disaster-affected areas for extended periods, often in challenging conditions.
  • Lives within driving distance of a metropolitan airport.

Certifications: Certification as a Building Inspector or Construction Inspector by a recognized professional organization is highly desirable. Must be able to obtain and sustain a Public Trust clearance.
