Job Title: Youth Development Specialist

Reports to: Prevention Education Program Coordinator

Workplace: Field/Office

Compensation: $31.25 hourly rate + 5% pay differential for bilingual Spanish/English fluency

Job Summary:

The Prevention Education Program is responsible for providing a variety of preventive and educational presentations to San Mateo County schools, community organizations, and individuals affected by sexual abuse/assault.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Presentations: Provide presentations to various sectors of the community; prioritizing outreach to middle schools, high schools, local community colleges, social service agencies and government agencies involved with youth.
  • Culturally Relevant Workshops: Provide culturally relevant workshops to youth and other stakeholders.
  • Empowerment Workshops: Deliver empowerment workshops for at-risk youth who have experienced trauma, with particular focus on those who have been identified as at-risk for Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSEC).
  • Training and Technical Assistance: Provide training and technical assistance for teachers and school staff who encounter youth victims of violence; conduct outreach to the community to schedule trainings focused on prevention and intervention, including providing on-going counseling services and/or referrals to appropriate agencies.
  • Partnerships: Work with partners to bolster and refresh staff and partner agencies' competencies in working with youth (e.g., techniques to help with relating to and building trusting relationships with youth).
  • Program Management: Collect, maintain, and input accurate information into program database.
  • Reporting: Complete monthly reports including narrative description of the program activities, objectives and goals.
  • Crisis Support: Answer crisis line calls and meet with walk-in clients during business hours, as needed.
  • Medical/Legal Accompaniment: Provide medical/legal accompaniment services to survivors of sexual assault, as needed.
  • Team Collaboration: Attend bi-weekly team meetings.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a positive, professional working relationship with volunteers, clients, the general public, agency staff and community partners at all times.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative and operational tasks such as copying, stocking informational packets, and sharing office coverage (e.g., answering phones).
  • Agency Policies: Adhere to all RTS personnel policies and protocols.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Perform other agency responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent career experience required.
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience providing outreach and education.
  • Passion for Working with Youth: Passion for working with and empowering youth.
  • Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish and English desired (not required).
  • Communication Skills: Strong, dynamic public speaking and training skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal communication skills, including ability to listen, clarify, validate, and respectfully challenge.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Writing Skills: Excellent writing skills.
  • Creativity: A creative thinker who is able to translate RTS' mission, vision, and values to a wide array of audiences.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivated and a team player. Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Problem-Solving: Must bring an eager and open-minded attitude, including the ability to problem solve as needed.
  • Team Environment: Must be comfortable working in a small team environment.
  • Commitment to Trauma-Informed Care: Interest in and commitment to developing or expanding trauma-focused counseling and advocacy skills.
  • Cultural Competence: Must have the ability to establish rapport with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekend and evening hours to finish projects on time.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PPT), Google Suite and other commonly used applications.
  • Valid Driver's License: Valid California driver's license, insurance, and reliable access to transportation.
  • Familiarity with Community Resources: Familiarity with San Mateo County and community resources.
