Certified Anesthesia Technologist

As a Certified Anesthesia Technologist at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our anesthesia department. You will assist anesthesia providers in preparing patients for surgery, setting up and maintaining anesthesia equipment, and providing exceptional patient care.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist anesthesia providers in preparing patients for surgery, including setting up and maintaining anesthesia equipment.
- Provide exceptional patient care, including responding to Code Blue and Code Pink situations.
- Prepare and apply patient warming modalities as needed.
- Actively participate in problem identification and resolution, development of policies and procedures, quality improvement, and staff development.
- Manage work assignments to ensure completion of patient care activities.
- Assemble anesthesia airway setup and prepare machine for malignant hyperthermia and latex allergy situations.
- Utilize sterile technique to set up and assist with placement of invasive monitoring equipment.
- Assist with obtaining lab specimens and ABGs.
- Coordinate patient monitoring equipment availability with PACU and Critical Care units.
- Work with perioperative team to facilitate prompt room turnover.
- Assemble anesthesia equipment and supplies needed for general, regional, and local anesthesia.
- Assist anesthesia provider with patient preparation, electrode placement, and use of ultrasound/nerve stimulator devices.
- Ensure sterile technique and prepare anesthesia trays and assist with procedures.
- Remove and dispose of supplies and equipment following procedures.
- Operate cell salvaging, intra-aortic balloon pumping, and TEE devices as required.
- Perform cleaning, sterilization, and decontamination of non-disposable anesthesia-related items.
- Consider budget and maintain sufficient stock, reviewing supplies and non-scheduled drugs in the anesthesia workroom, machines, carts, and auxiliary anesthetizing locations.
- Have working knowledge and operation of all equipment and monitors.
- Perform routine checkout and upkeep of anesthesia equipment, inspecting for damages and sending for repair or troubleshooting as needed.
- Coordinate with Biomedical Engineering for maintenance and repair of anesthesia equipment and ensure adequate backup at all times.
- Work with engineering, maintaining record/documentation of equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Maintain inventory of disposable and non-disposable equipment, including all supplies and initiate replacement using established contract vendors.
- Maintain and update supplies in emergency carts and boxes, such as Code Blue, malignant hyperthermia, fluid resuscitation, and fiberoptic/difficult airway.
- Assure a clean, orderly, and functional work environment.
- Participate in relevant local, regional, and national committees.
- Maintain working relationship with approved vendors.
- Organize work to minimize the use of overtime.
- Identify and assist in systems improvements for simplification or correction.
- Utilize payroll and non-payroll resources to their maximum potential, assisting manager in capital budget preparation.
- Consistently demonstrate a professional, supportive attitude.
- Initiate and support new ideas and actively assist others.
- Confront difficult or conflict situations constructively and seek appropriate assistance.
- Actively participate in departmental professional development and mentor anesthesia students.
- Participate with the assessment of current and future learning needs and development of an annual educational plan.
- Support a collaborative labor-management environment.
- Apply precautions and keep a safe environment for self and others.
- Practice customer service standards as defined by the service area, medical center, and specific department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Consistently support compliance, the Principles of Responsibility, and Kaiser Permanente's Code of Conduct.
- Maintain and protect patient confidentiality.
- Adhere to applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, accreditation and licenser requirements, and Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures.
