Position Overview

The Nursing Operations Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Nurse Manager in delivering leadership within the department. This role includes overseeing daily operations, managing and developing departmental personnel, and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure effective patient care through the nursing process.

This position requires 24/7 support of the department/unit as necessary and typically reports to a Nursing Manager or Nursing Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the deployment of departmental objectives that align with the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Assist leadership with managerial duties.
  • Oversee daily operational tasks delegated by the manager/director, including participation in hiring, interviewing, and performance evaluations.
  • Coordinate effective care transitions between units, nurses, and healthcare providers.
  • Assist in the development of staff schedules and perform effectively in emergency situations.
  • Act as a resource and mentor to staff, medical personnel, patients, and their families.
  • Guide staff in quality improvement initiatives across all shifts.
  • Ensure compliance with performance improvement standards on a daily basis and participate in annual quality improvement projects.
  • Provide verbal and written feedback regarding staff performance in collaboration with leadership.
  • Facilitate access to necessary supplies for staff and contribute to budget preparation.
  • Promote effective communication within and between departments.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Ensure clinical practices are aligned with evidence-based standards.
  • Conduct leadership rounds on patients and address customer concerns promptly.
  • Identify and manage high-risk social situations appropriately.
  • Adhere to all regulatory standards and organizational policies.
  • Foster professional growth by meeting educational and competency requirements, serving as a mentor and resource for less experienced staff.

Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is required; a Master’s degree in Nursing is required if the Bachelor’s degree is in a different field.

Licenses/Certifications: A current State of Texas nursing license or a temporary/compact license is required. Certification in Basic Life Support is mandatory, and professional certification in the clinical area or management is required within one year of eligibility.

Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a clinical practice area is required, along with demonstrated leadership experience.
