Key Responsibilities- Review and monitor the installation of mechanical utility systems to ensure compliance with safety standards and codes.
- Oversee and continuously improve the Mechanical Safety Program to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel.
- Coordinate and conduct design reviews and pressure safety reviews to ensure mechanical systems meet FRIB's high standards.
- Provide strategic advice and planning for mechanical utility systems to support the research mission.
- Review documentation and work plans for code compliance and safety to ensure mechanical systems are designed and installed correctly.
- Establish mechanical design standards to be used by technical divisions to ensure consistency and quality.
- Drive the usage of and assist with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify and mitigate potential risks.
- Provide oversight of the fire alarm system to ensure it is functioning correctly and meets safety standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics.
- Five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible work experience in physics, electronics, mechanical and/or electrical drafting, fabrication techniques, heat transfer, cryogenics, and computer systems.
- Experience in the use of CAD and/or related engineering systems, including file transfer.
- Experience in the use of exotic metals, including knowledge of their properties, in the fabrication and assembly of sophisticated research equipment.
- Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Five years of industry and/or military experience.
- Three years of project management experience.
- Record of accomplishment in the field of expertise.
- Over five years of experience in the analysis, design, or installation of mechanical utility systems.
- Experience working with particle accelerators and supporting systems such as vacuum, low-conductivity water, and cryogenics.
- Experience using mechanical codes and standards, including ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and piping codes.
- Professional Engineering Licensure.
