Mechanical Engineer - Machine Tooling Design

Vaco is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team in designing and developing machine tools for a leading industrial manufacturer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the mechanical design of machines and machine tooling to meet customer design specifications, ensuring reliability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain standard components to meet all applicable specifications in machine and machine tooling designs.
  • Design and improve machine tooling to conserve space, reduce manufacturing costs, and minimize engineering time.
  • Evaluate design capabilities, provide accurate information, and support documentation to ensure timely and customer-specified designs.
  • Coordinate with Controls Project Engineers and Coordinators to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Provide all required documentation to customers as scheduled for approval.
  • Obtain competitive quotations, issue requisitions, and manage long lead time items to keep projects on schedule.
  • Estimate engineering hours and ensure accountability to meet these hours and machine budgets as quoted.
  • Collaborate with shop personnel in the build, startup, debug, and support of machines.
  • Provide all required documentation to customers at machine shipment and acceptance.
  • Support Service Technicians and Training personnel during machine startup in customer plants.
  • Provide support to the Sales & Parts Department as required.
  • Attend meetings regarding job content, scheduling, and job progress as requested by the Customer, Sales Department, Manufacturing, or Management.
  • Notify the Mechanical Engineering Manager of any conditions where changes are being made to the machine that are not required by the machine order or customer's specifications or where machine safety is a concern.
  • Remain current with the latest technology in the industry and advise the Engineering Manager of any new trends that could be incorporated into machine designs.
Requirements:
  • B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3-5 years of experience in machine tools or a related industry.
  • Experience with engines or powertrains is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3-D Solid Works.
  • Strong analytical skills, including data compilation, pattern recognition, logical conclusions, and recommendations for action.
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Willingness to work hands-on in the plant and at customer facilities, including domestic and international travel.
