BioMed Realty is seeking an experienced Accountant to join our Property Accounting team. As an Accountant, you will be responsible for providing financial and accounting support for our portfolio of properties, including auditing and closing books, preparing statements, and establishing and maintaining accurate records.
This is a hybrid role, with 4 days in office and 1 day remotely. You will work closely with our dynamic team to provide financial insights and support to our property management and finance teams.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting: Prepare and maintain financial statements for various properties, including income statements and balance sheets, adhering to GAAP and company policies.
- Perform financial analysis and prepare monthly and quarterly variance analysis for assigned portfolio.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable processes for property-related transactions.
- General Ledger Management: Maintain the general ledger for each property, recording all financial transactions, and reconciling accounts on a monthly basis.
- Lease Administration: Review and interpret lease agreements to ensure proper accounting treatment of lease-related revenues and expenses.
- Review tenant billings, including recurring CAM, property tax, management fee, insurance, utility billings, and tenant-specific manual billings for coding and accuracy of documentation.
- Annual budget and CAM estimates: assist Asset Management team with annual budget-specific portfolio tasks and assist Property Management team with the preparation of annual CAM estimates.
- Financial Audits: Facilitate audits conducted by external auditors, providing required documentation and explanations as needed.
- Process Improvement: Continuously assess accounting processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including property management, finance, and executive leadership, to provide financial insights and support.
- BA/BS in Accountancy, Finance, or related field.
- 2-3 years of accounting experience with an emphasis in real estate industry preferred.
- Solid understanding of basic Accounting principles and ability to apply them to day-to-day responsibilities.
- Experience with accounting software, MRI preferred.
- Proficiency with MS Office: Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
- Detail-oriented, excellent organization and time management skills with strong follow-through abilities.
