Position Overview
The City of New York Department of Correction (DOC) plays a vital role in the City’s evolving criminal justice framework, engaging in reform initiatives aimed at transitioning towards a more compact jail system while ensuring public safety remains uncompromised. The DOC is tasked with maintaining a secure environment for employees, visitors, volunteers, and individuals in custody. A secure correctional facility allows the DOC to equip individuals in custody with essential tools and opportunities for successful reintegration into their communities. The DOC operates various facilities and court commands across the five boroughs, employing over 7,500 diverse professionals and experts.
Role Summary
The DOC is seeking an Absence Management Supervisor to oversee various aspects of the Absence Control within the Health Management Division. Under the guidance of supervisory personnel, the appointed individual will be responsible for the following:
- Administration and Personnel Oversight: Conduct weekly scheduling reviews.
- Monitoring: Track and oversee all MMR TDY staff assigned to different departmental areas.
- Reporting: Prepare monthly reports regarding firearms assigned, confiscated, and retrieved at the Health Management Division.
- Process Management: Facilitate the transfer of confiscated firearms to the Firearms Tactic Unit.
- Disciplinary Actions: Process disciplinary charges for personnel who fail to attend their assigned Health Management Division appointments.
- Privilege Revocation: Manage revocation of firearm privileges due to psychological or medical unfitness.
- Retrieval Operations: Oversee the retrieval and confiscation of firearms from members deemed medically or psychologically unfit.
- Identification Management: Handle the confiscation and alteration of identification cards.
- Suspensions: Administer suspensions as necessary.
- Legal Documentation: Serve OATH and manage Trials & Litigation paperwork.
- Investigation Support: Assist investigators in obtaining documentation from members on sick leave for logging medical and physical therapy appointments.
- Toxicology Assistance: Support off-hours toxicology, breathalyzer, and drug testing.
- Sick Desk Supervision: Act as Sick Desk Supervisor/Tour Commander.
Qualifications
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, along with five years of relevant full-time experience in investigative roles related to credit worthiness, asset searches, and verification of personal qualifications.
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited institution, paired with four years of relevant full-time experience as described above.
3. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, with two years of relevant full-time experience as described above.
4. Equivalent education and/or experience as outlined in options 1, 2, or 3.
