Under the guidance of the Laboratory Supervisor, this role will provide both clinical and non-clinical services to support patient-centered care. The phlebotomist is tasked with the timely, accurate, and efficient collection of blood specimens, which is crucial for patient care and experience. Laboratory results derived from blood specimens play a significant role in diagnostic and treatment processes.

Key Responsibilities

- Collect adequate blood specimens from all patient categories including inpatients (obstetric, medical/surgical, mental health, oncology, rehabilitation, renal, neurological), outpatients, emergency care, and non-patient services (physician clinics, wellness/fitness, environmental monitoring, pediatric) across all age groups.
- Ensure all specimens are labeled according to established standards.
- Support LEAN principles of one-piece flow and first in, first out when delivering patient samples to the laboratory.
- Adhere to standard work processes and meet productivity benchmarks.
- Exercise sound judgment in determining work priorities.
- Collaborate with nursing units and clients to identify critical priorities and resolve discrepancies, including assessing specimen acceptability and canceling tests as necessary.
- Implement continuous quality improvement processes by representing the Laboratory in a professional, compassionate, and cooperative manner, thereby providing exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

Education: Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Must possess the ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
Preferred: Successful completion of a phlebotomy training program.
Previous Experience: Not required. EOE M/F/V/D
