Job Title: Academic Advising Director

Queens University of Charlotte is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advising Director to oversee campus-wide academic advising initiatives and manage professional staff. The successful candidate will work directly with faculty advisors, coordinate a comprehensive plan for academic advising, and ensure quality academic advising for all students.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Royal Advising, a model for first- and second-year undergraduate academic advising, in conjunction with a faculty facilitator.
  • Supervise full-time professional advisors and support their work with assigned student populations.
  • Organize and coordinate academic components of student orientation in collaboration with Student Life and faculty.
  • Develop and support a comprehensive training program for faculty advisors in collaboration with department chairs, academic deans, and the Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence.
  • Ensure ongoing assessment of advising with a view to continually improving its effectiveness and enhancing student experience and satisfaction.
  • Assume primary responsibility for escalated advising concerns and support readmitted students with understanding their academic progress and methods for academic recovery.
  • In collaboration with department chairs and deans, coordinate the assignment of faculty advisors for undergraduate students with declared majors.
  • Coordinate communication to students and advisors regarding academic early warning, midterm warning, and probation.
  • Maintain, update, and disseminate resources that facilitate students' awareness and understanding of their academic standing and progress.
  • Act as a resource for campus constituencies and committees whose responsibilities relate to student retention and, as appropriate, take a leadership role in retention initiatives.
  • Serve on the University's Student Support Team, a collaborative team of campus partners tasked with addressing alerts regarding students' well-being and success.
  • Represent the Academic Advising and/or the Center for Student Success at open houses, admission events, and other functions as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years direct experience with university advising.
  • Supervisory experience and/or successful experience as a team leader required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student development and passion for working with diverse undergraduate populations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentational communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Strong organizational and follow-up and follow-through skills.
  • Proven ability to safeguard sensitive and confidential information.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Office and other relevant programs.
  • Master's degree in higher education administration, counseling, coaching, or related field required or equivalent experience and education.
