Position Overview:
At NorthBay Health, the Financial Counselor Ambassador plays a crucial role in managing financial interactions with patients. This position involves leveraging information collected during patient registration, interviews, and collaboration with various departments.

Key Responsibilities:
The Financial Counselor is tasked with identifying payor sources for patients who are uninsured or underinsured, ensuring they receive necessary ambulatory surgery, emergency, and inpatient services while maximizing reimbursement for the healthcare facility and providers.

This role includes guiding patients through the application processes for government assistance programs, charity care, or other applicable insurance options, as well as establishing customized payment plans when suitable.

Patient Education:
Engaging in informative discussions with patients to clarify their coverage eligibility and benefits is essential. This includes providing insights on program eligibility, benefits coordination, application statuses, estimated financial responsibilities, and any outstanding balances from prior visits.

Professionalism and Communication:
Maintaining a high standard of professionalism and empathy is vital, demonstrated through courteous interactions, confidentiality, and a polished presentation. The role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Collaboration and Training:
Assisting the QA/Training Coordinator and Exceptional Experience Coaches with training initiatives and quality improvement projects is expected. Consistently achieving or surpassing departmental goals for productivity, financial management, and patient satisfaction is a priority.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED is preferred; an Associate Degree is a plus.
Licensure/Certification:
Relevant certification in Patient Access and/or Revenue Cycle from a recognized healthcare credentialing body is required within the first year of employment.

Experience:
A minimum of five years in customer engagement roles related to financial counseling, eligibility screening, or collections is required. Strong communication skills are essential for effective discussions.

Knowledge Areas:
Familiarity with various insurance types, including Medi-Cal, Medicare, Managed Care, Indemnity, and Workers Compensation, is preferred. Understanding the impact of accurate registration on claims processing and patient care delivery is crucial.

Performance Standards:
Adherence to established policies and procedures, along with exemplary attendance and punctuality, is expected.

Interpersonal Skills:
Exemplifying the NorthBay Way, which includes Caring, Communication, Collaboration, and Competence, is essential. A commitment to service excellence, compassion, and strong listening skills is required.

Compensation:
Hourly Pay Range MIN $33.19 – $36.49, based on relevant experience.
